Three scopes, and why they need separating

This site describes a lot of treatments — more than two hundred topic pages. Three different things are being described in them, and it is worth knowing which is which before you read any of it as a list of what you can book here.

What this clinic does

The work here is non-surgical, and it falls into four groups:

Injectables. Botulinum toxin, hyaluronic acid fillers, and skin boosters — used for lines, volume, contour and skin quality rather than for structure.

Regenerative treatment. Treatments that use your own material or that stimulate the skin’s own repair, planned across sessions rather than in one sitting.

Energy-based devices. Lasers, radiofrequency and focused ultrasound — devices that act on the skin with light, heat or mechanical energy.

Medical skin care. Prescribed topical and in-clinic skin treatment: pigmentation, acne and acne scarring, redness, and skin quality.

Surgery is not in that list, and it is not performed here. Neither is the treatment of skin disease. Those are not gaps to be filled by finding the right clinic — they are simply the boundary of a non-surgical practice, and the honest answer where a case needs them is a referral.

What the topic pages are, and what they are not

The treatment and condition pages are explanatory articles. Each one covers how a treatment is performed, what it is usually planned around, what the risks are, and what a consultation about it looks like.

They are written to explain the field, not to serve as this clinic’s stock list:

• A topic page is not a promise that the clinic offers it. Where a page describes a product or a device, it is describing that class of treatment as it exists in the field.
• No brands or device models are listed anywhere on this site as things the clinic holds. The reason is not coyness: what makes a device claim checkable is the registration number and the purchase record behind it, and that is a set of facts the clinic has to supply. Until it does, the site does not claim it.
• Ask us what we currently offer before you plan around anything you read. That question has a definite answer at a consultation, and it costs nothing to ask.

The practical difference matters most for hair: much of what is written on this site about hair restoration is non-surgical — PRP, growth-factor and light-based treatment aimed at follicles that are still active. Where follicles are no longer viable, the answer is transplantation, and that is surgery. Transplantation is not done at this clinic. Two of the partner departments list it: the Medical Aesthetics Department at Nanjing BenQ Medical Center, and the Medical Aesthetics Centre at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University.

What the partner hospitals do

We work alongside five hospital departments in Nanjing. They are partners, not branches — separate institutions, with their own physicians, their own facilities and their own responsibility for the work they do.

• Medical Aesthetics Department, Nanjing BenQ Medical Center — nine areas of practice and twelve condition-specific clinics, including hair and scalp treatment, pigmentation, acne and scarring, sensitive skin, laser and light treatment, and aesthetic and reconstructive surgery.
• Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital — skin disease as well as aesthetics: cryotherapy, electrocautery, multifunction pulsed laser, narrow-band UVB, microdermabrasion and dermatological surgery.
• Medical Aesthetics Centre, Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University — surgical aesthetic procedures across eye, nose, breast, fat and intimate surgery, hair transplantation, and dermatological aesthetic treatment.
• Medical Aesthetics Department, Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University — surgical and reconstructive work, minimally invasive and injectable treatment, and repair and rescue: revision after unsatisfactory aesthetic procedures and management of complications.
• Medical Aesthetics Department, Nanjing International Hospital — routine aesthetic surgery, and revision, repair and reconstruction.

Everything in those lists is the hospital’s own published scope, transcribed — not our recommendation. Whether a specific department is the right route for you is a clinical judgement made in person, not a name on a page. Each department is described on its own page, with every fact attributed to the hospital that published it, and the rosters on those pages are that hospital’s physicians — some of whom also practise at this clinic.

How a referral works, and what it is not

If your case needs something this clinic does not do, the answer at your consultation is a referral rather than a treatment plan. That happens in three situations, and they are worth recognising in advance:

• The case needs surgery. Injectables, energy devices and skin treatment cannot achieve a structural change that requires an operation.
• The case turns out to be a disease, not a cosmetic concern. A mole that needs excising, a rash that will not settle, hair loss with a medical cause — these are dermatology, and the department at Drum Tower Hospital does exactly that.
• Something has gone wrong elsewhere. Revision after an unsatisfactory procedure, and the management of complications, is a defined part of what the Second Affiliated Hospital’s department lists.

A referral is not a hand-off of responsibility, and it is not a sale. The hospital treats you, that hospital is responsible for that treatment, and it is that hospital you pay. What we do not do is tell you a clinic name and leave it there — tell us the problem and we will tell you which department is the right route, or say that we do not know and ask.

And a name is not a promise. Whether a specific clinic or physician is right for your case is worked out between you and them. This page is a map of who does what, not a booking system.

Where to start

If you are not sure which of the three scopes your case sits in, that is the normal position to be in, and it is what the free video consultation is for. You describe what concerns you; the physician tells you whether treatment is appropriate for you at all, and if it is not, which of the two other routes applies.

Nothing is paid to hold that call, and a “this is not for us, here is who it is for” is a complete and useful outcome.
