Radiofrequency Skin Tightening

Radiofrequency passes an electrical current through tissue. The tissue’s own resistance turns that current into heat.

WHAT IS IT

Radiofrequency skin tightening in Nanjing

Radiofrequency passes an electrical current through tissue. The tissue’s own resistance turns that current into heat, and controlled heating prompts a collagen response over the following months. The skin surface is not broken and nothing is injected.

That mechanism is what separates radiofrequency from the other lifting technologies. Ultrasound focuses sound to a point; lasers deposit light at a wavelength the tissue absorbs; radiofrequency heats by resistance, so it is less dependent on how much pigment the skin carries. That is a real difference in behaviour — not a claim that the treatment is appropriate for everyone.

At Luowei Medical Aesthetics Clinic the assessment is done by our physician before any platform is selected, and some patients are told that no device is the right answer for what they want.

Key points

  • What it targets Collagen response in the dermis and fibrous septa
  • Platforms here Thermage® (FLX & CPT) · InMode Forma™ · BTL Exilis™
  • Onset Gradual — assessed over months, not days
  • Course Varies by platform: some are single-session, others a series
  • Recovery Usually short, but redness, swelling or tenderness can occur
It is not a facelift. Where laxity is substantial, energy treatment will under-deliver against what a surgical lift achieves. We say that at consultation rather than after payment, and refer for surgical assessment where that is the honest answer.

Radiofrequency is not one treatment

Two quite different procedures both get called “RF”. Non-invasive radiofrequency— this page — delivers energy through a surface electrode, with no needles. RF microneedling drives insulated or non-insulated needles into the skin and delivers the energy from their tips. Different depth, different recovery, different risks, and usually a different reason to choose it. If your concern is acne scarring, texture or pores rather than laxity, that is the pathway to read.

THE PLATFORMS

Three systems, and what separates them

They are offered as separate treatments because they deliver energy differently, not as tiers of the same thing.

MONOPOLAR

Thermage® FLX

Monopolar radiofrequency with a return pathway, so the current travels deeper than a bipolar configuration reaches. Both the current FLX generation and the earlier CPT generation are held here, and which is used is decided at assessment.

Typically a single session per course

BIPOLAR

InMode Forma™

Bipolar radiofrequency with temperature feedback — the handpiece reads the skin and modulates output rather than delivering a fixed dose.

Usually a series of sessions

COMBINED ENERGY

BTL Exilis Ultra 360™

A combined-energy platform — the configuration used here pairs radiofrequency with ultrasound rather than delivering radiofrequency alone. The earlier Exilis Ultra is also held; which is used is decided at assessment.

Usually a series of sessions

Why we do not rank them. There is no platform that is better for every patient. Tissue thickness, laxity pattern, fat distribution, previous treatments and what you actually want changed all move the answer. A clinic that names one device as universally best is describing its inventory, not your face.
HOW THE PLATFORM IS CHOSEN

What our physician assesses before selecting a system

Factor Why it changes the decision
Severity of laxity Beyond a certain point, energy treatment under-delivers and surgical assessment is the honest recommendation
Depth the concern sits at Monopolar and bipolar configurations do not reach the same depth, which is the main reason the platforms are not interchangeable
Subcutaneous fat Radiofrequency heats fat as well as dermis; where facial fat is already thin, that has to be weighed rather than ignored
Muscle contribution Platysmal pull and masseter bulk are muscle problems, not laxity problems
Bone and volume support Where support is lost, tightening alone can make a face look drawn rather than lifted
Previous devices, fillers, threads or surgery Changes the tissue plane and what can be safely delivered
Implanted devices and medical history Screened against the current instructions for use for the exact platform — this matters more for radiofrequency than for some other modalities
Your tolerance and timeline A single-session platform and a series-based platform are different commitments
WHO THIS SUITS — AND WHO IT DOES NOT

Being honest about the limits

Often a reasonable option

  • Early to moderate laxity Where skin has loosened but the underlying structure is intact
  • Wants little interruption Most patients return to normal activity the same day, though that is not guaranteed for everyone
  • Not ready for surgery And understands the difference in what each achieves
  • Maintenance mindset Accepts that ageing continues and repeat assessment is part of the plan

Reasons we recommend against it

  • Substantial laxity Where a surgical lift is what would actually deliver the result wanted
  • Very little facial fat Heating tissue that is already thin can accentuate hollowing rather than improve contour
  • The cause is not laxity Fat, muscle or volume loss need their own pathway
  • Relevant implanted devices Screened individually against the instructions for use for the exact platform
  • Expectation mismatch Wanting a defined percentage or a fixed timeline we cannot promise
YOUR JOURNEY

From consultation to review

Stage What happens
Consultation Assessment of what is actually causing the change you see — laxity, fat, muscle, volume, or a combination
Screening Medical history, implanted devices and previous treatments checked against the instructions for use for the platform being considered
Photography Standardised images so the review months later is a comparison, not a memory
Platform selection Chosen from the assessment, with the reasoning explained
Consent Including what this treatment will not do
Treatment Radiofrequency is felt as heat. How much is felt varies by platform, area and individual, and comfort measures are discussed beforehand
Short term Redness, warmth, swelling or tenderness can occur and usually settle
Review The result is judged at the interval appropriate to the platform, not in the first weeks
OTHER ROUTES

When something else is the better answer

Patients often arrive searching for a “non-surgical facelift”. That phrase describes a goal, not a treatment — and several different pathways serve it, depending on what is actually causing the change.

If the cause is The pathway is usually
Skin laxity Radiofrequency, or ultrasound lifting— different energy, overlapping goals
Scarring, texture or pores RF microneedling— needle-delivered energy, a different procedure from this page
Lost volume and support Dermal fillers or collagen stimulators — tightening alone will not restore structure
Muscle activity Botulinum toxin for platysmal bands or masseter bulk
Pigment rather than laxity Pigmentation lasers— a dull, uneven complexion is often read as sagging when it is not
Mechanical descent Thread lifting in selected cases
Substantial laxity Surgical assessment — We refer rather than oversell a device

Most faces present more than one of these at once, which is why the assessment comes before the device.

PRICING & PAYMENT

Radiofrequency Tightening Pricing & Payment

Cost depends on the platform, the area treated, and whether the plan is a single session or a series — which is set at assessment rather than sold as a fixed package.

What drives the cost Why
Platform A monopolar single-session treatment and a series-based bipolar treatment are priced on different bases
Consumable tip Thermage treatments use a single-use tip, and tips differ by area and by the number of pulses they carry
Area Lower face, full face, face and neck, periocular, or body
Number of sessions Series-based platforms are quoted as a course, not per visit
Plan Whether radiofrequency is used alone or alongside another modality

A written quotation is given by our physician after your consultation, and nothing is opened, injected or switched on until you have it in hand. Payment is made at the clinic before treatment begins. Cosmetic treatment is a self-pay item and is not covered by public medical insurance in China.

EXPERIENCE · EXPERTISE · AUTHORITATIVENESS · TRUSTWORTHINESS

Why trust Luowei Medical Aesthetics Clinic with radiofrequency

Radiofrequency is the category where counterfeit consumables and unverifiable device claims are most common, which makes where you have it done a clinical question rather than a price question.

Experience

  • Physician-performed Assessment and treatment carried out by our physician personally
  • Three platforms in-house Thermage in both generations, Forma and Exilis, so the choice is not limited to one machine
  • Standardised photography Consistent angle and lighting so the review is an honest comparison

Expertise

  • Depth-led selection Monopolar and bipolar platforms are chosen by the depth the concern sits at, not by what is free that day
  • Fat-aware planning Facial fat volume is assessed before energy is planned, because radiofrequency heats fat as well as dermis

Authoritativeness

  • Teaching role McMaster University clinical preceptor
  • Conference speaker IMCAS international aesthetic medicine congress
  • BBB accredited A+ rating

Trustworthiness

  • Genuine consumables Manufacturer-supplied single-use tips, traceable to the supplier
  • What we do not claim No surgical equivalence, no guaranteed duration, no fixed percentage of tightening, no promise that treatment is painless
  • When we refer out Substantial laxity is referred for surgical assessment rather than treated with a device that cannot deliver it
  • Platform described accurately A combined-energy device is described as combined energy, not marketed as pure radiofrequency
RISKS & SAFETY

Common reactions · Serious risks · Contraindications

Radiofrequency is a heat-based treatment. Most of what follows is short-lived, but the uncommon effects are real and are disclosed before consent rather than after.

Commonly reported after treatment

  • Redness and warmth Usually settles within hours to a day or two
  • Swelling More common on the lower face and neck
  • Tenderness Can persist for several days in the treated area
  • Sensation during treatment Heat is felt; how much varies by platform, area and individual

Uncommon, and disclosed

  • Blistering or burns A risk with any heat-based device, reduced by correct technique and cooling but not eliminated
  • Pigment change Temporary darkening or lightening, more relevant in deeper skin tones
  • Contour irregularity or fat loss Uncommon, and the reason facial fat volume is assessed beforehand
  • Altered sensation Usually temporary where it occurs
  • Limited or no visible improvement Possible, and discussed before treatment rather than after

When treatment is postponed or declined

  • Implanted electronic devices Pacemakers, defibrillators and similar devices are a specific consideration for radiofrequency and are screened individually
  • Metal implants in the treatment area Assessed against the instructions for use for the exact platform
  • Active infection or skin disease In or near the area intended for treatment
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding Aesthetic energy treatment is deferred
  • Recent treatment in the same area Fillers, threads, other energy devices or surgery change what can be delivered safely
  • Unrealistic expectation Where what is wanted is a surgical result, we say so rather than proceed
On counterfeit tips. Thermage treatments rely on a single-use tip, and counterfeit tips are a known problem in this market. An unusually low price for a Thermage treatment is worth asking about — ask the clinic where the tip comes from, whatever clinic you choose.
EVIDENCE & REFERENCES

Where the medical claims on this page come from

Everything above about Radiofrequency Skin Tightening rests on published evidence rather than on our own word. The sources below are the ones behind those statements: peer-reviewed papers indexed in PubMed, and guidance written for patients by dermatology academies and national health services. Read them before you decide — and bring any of them to your consultation.

What these references can and cannot tell you. They describe what is known about the treatment itself — how well it tends to work, how long results last, and what can go wrong. They are not an assessment of this clinic, and no published study can tell you whether it suits your skin type, anatomy, or medical history. That judgement comes from the physician who examines you in person, and it may well be “not this one”.
