Dysport There is minimal downtime after injection, but the care steps taken within the first 4 hours post-procedure can influence the final diffusion pattern and symmetry. Our physician will review each post-care instruction with you before you leave.
Pre-procedure preparation
- Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and Omega-3 supplements for 1 week before your injection (to reduce bruising)
- Avoid alcohol (for 24 hours prior to injection)
- Disclose all current medications (including antibiotics and antihypertensives)
- Makeup and eating are permitted on the day of injection
- Previous neurotoxin history must be disclosed, including brands used and dosages
- Please inform us of any severe milk protein allergy before treatment (Dysport contains trace amounts)
During the injection
- Facial cleansing + muscle point mapping (3–5 minutes)
- Superficial multi-point injections using 30–32G fine-gauge needles
- A mild stinging sensation similar to a mosquito bite — virtually painless
- Session duration: 5–10 minutes (depending on the number of areas treated)
- Small red dots or minor raised bumps may appear immediately after injection (typically resolve within 30 minutes)
Post-procedure care
- Remain upright for 4 hours after injection (do not lie flat — to prevent product diffusion)
- Avoid massaging or rubbing the injection sites for 24 hours after treatment
- 24 hours, avoid hot yoga, saunas, and strenuous exercise
- 24 hours after treatment (alcohol increases bruising risk)
- Resume work and social activities immediately after injection (minimal downtime)
- D14 Follow-up assessment of symmetry and coverage (complimentary touch-up at first visit)
- Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen daily (not directly related to the neurotoxin, but essential for overall skin protection)

Common reactions (may occur shortly after injection)
- Mild redness, swelling, or small bumps at injection sites (30 minutes to 2 hours to subside)
- Bruising (5-7 days to resolve naturally; Arnica may be used to accelerate recovery)
- Sensation of tightness or heaviness in the head (D1-D3 common, resolves gradually)
- Mild headache (24-48 hours to resolve; acetaminophen may be taken for relief)
- Soreness or pressure at injection sites (Mild weakness in chewing for 1–2 weeks after masseter injection is normal)
Serious Risks (rare, but required disclosure)
- Ptosis (upper eyelid droop)— Most commonly seen when product diffuses to the levator palpebrae superioris during glabellar injections. Our physician reduces this risk to < 1% through precise injection-point spacing. If it does occur, it typically resolves on its own within 4–6 weeks; Apraclonidine eye drops can be used to accelerate recovery.
- Lateral brow ptosis / facial asymmetry— Dysport Diffusion is broader than Botox; this is more likely to appear in Asian women with thinner mimetic muscles. A Day-14 follow-up allows for a 5–10U touch-up to refine symmetry.
- Unnatural smile (stiff mouth corners)— During crow’s feet treatment, diffusion toward the zygomaticus major is a known risk; Our physician mitigates this by maintaining an injection distance of 1.5 cm or more from the lateral canthus
- Allergic reaction— Extremely rare (Dysport® contains trace amounts of cow’s milk protein); patients with known allergies must disclose this prior to treatment
- Antibody formation (treatment failure)— High-frequency injections over time may lead to neutralizing antibody formation and reduced efficacy. Our physician maintains a minimum 12-week interval between treatments to lower this risk.
