Ultrasound Skin Lifting & Tightening
Focused ultrasound delivers energy below the skin surface to a controlled depth.
Ultrasound skin lifting and tightening in Nanjing
Focused ultrasound delivers energy below the skin surface to a controlled depth, where heat prompts the tissue to produce new collagen over the following months. Nothing is cut and nothing is injected — the change is gradual, and it is a different order of change from surgery.
This is not the ultrasound used for imaging. Diagnostic ultrasound scatters low-intensity sound to produce a picture; aesthetic devices focus higher-intensity sound to a point, and it is that focal heating that drives the response.
At Luowei Medical Aesthetics Clinic every ultrasound assessment is done by our physician before a platform is selected, and some patients are told that a device is not the right answer for what they want.
Key points
- What it targets Collagen response at a set depth below the skin
- Platforms here Ultherapy® · Ultherapy PRIME® · Sofwave™
- Onset Gradual — assessed over months, not days
- Duration Varies by patient, platform and plan; aging continues
- Downtime Usually minimal, but redness, swelling or tenderness can occur
About the word “HIFU”
Many patients search for HIFU. It is a broad category term, not a product. Ultherapy and Sofwave each use their own documented technology and their own manufacturer terminology, and the two are not interchangeable. We use the category word here because you may search for it — but which platform suits you is a clinical decision, not a label.
Three systems, and what separates them
We hold both Ultherapy generations and Sofwave. They are offered as separate treatments because they behave differently, not as tiers of the same thing.
Ultherapy®
Microfocused ultrasound with visualization. Real-time imaging lets the physician see the tissue plane before energy is delivered — which informs placement; it does not guarantee an outcome.
First-generation platform
Ultherapy PRIME®
The second-generation Ultherapy platform. Offered alongside the first generation rather than replacing it; which one is used is decided at assessment.
Second-generation platform
Sofwave™
Uses its own synchronized ultrasound technology with integrated surface cooling. A different mechanism from MFU-V — not a variant of Ultherapy.
Separate technology
What our physician assesses before selecting a system
| Factor | Why it changes the decision |
|---|---|
| Severity of laxity | Beyond a certain point, energy treatment under-delivers and surgical assessment is the honest recommendation |
| Tissue thickness | Skin and subcutaneous depth affect which platform and which setting are appropriate |
| Fat distribution | A jawline blurred by fat is a different problem from one blurred by laxity |
| Muscle contribution | Platysmal pull and masseter bulk are muscle problems, not laxity problems |
| Bone and volume support | Where support is lost, tightening alone can make a face look drawn rather than lifted |
| Previous devices, fillers, threads or surgery | Changes the tissue plane and what can be safely delivered |
| Medical history and implants | Screened against the current instructions for use for the exact platform |
| Your tolerance and timeline | These treatments differ in comfort and in how quickly change becomes visible |
Being honest about the limits
Often a reasonable option
- Early to moderate laxity Where skin has loosened but the underlying structure is intact
- Not ready for surgery And understands the difference in what each achieves
- Wants gradual change Comfortable with a result that develops over months
- Maintenance mindset Accepts that ageing continues and repeat assessment is part of the plan
Reasons we recommend against it
- Substantial laxity Where a surgical lift is what would actually deliver the result wanted
- Expectation mismatch Wanting a defined percentage or a specific timeline we cannot promise
- The cause is not laxity Fat, muscle or volume loss need their own pathway
- Contraindications Screened against the current instructions for use, including active infection or relevant skin disease in the area
From consultation to review
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Consultation | Assessment of what is actually causing the change you see — laxity, fat, muscle, volume, or a combination |
| Photography | Standardised images so the review at months three to six is a comparison, not a memory |
| Platform selection | Chosen from the assessment, with the reasoning explained |
| Consent | Including what this treatment will not do |
| Treatment | Discomfort varies by platform, area and individual; this is discussed beforehand |
| Short term | Redness, swelling, tenderness or altered sensation can occur and usually settle |
| Review | The result is judged at the interval appropriate to the platform, not in the first weeks |
When something else is the better answer
Patients often arrive searching for a “non-surgical facelift”. That phrase describes a goal, not a treatment — and several different pathways serve it, depending on what is actually causing the change.
| If the cause is | The pathway is usually |
|---|---|
| Skin laxity | Ultrasound, or radiofrequency tightening— different energy, overlapping goals |
| Lost volume and support | Dermal fillers or collagen stimulators — tightening alone will not restore structure |
| Muscle activity | Botulinum toxin for platysmal bands or masseter bulk |
| Skin texture and quality | Resurfacing or microneedling pathways rather than lifting |
| Mechanical descent | Thread lifting in selected cases |
| Substantial laxity | Surgical assessment — We refer rather than oversell a device |
Most faces present more than one of these at once, which is why the assessment comes before the device.
Ultrasound Lifting Pricing & Payment
Cost depends on the platform, the area treated, and the number of lines of energy the plan calls for — which is set at assessment rather than sold as a fixed package.
| What drives the cost | Why |
|---|---|
| Platform | Ultherapy, Ultherapy PRIME and Sofwave are priced differently |
| Area | Lower face, full face, full face and neck, or dé colletage |
| Treatment density | How much energy the assessment calls for, which varies by tissue |
| Plan | Whether ultrasound is used alone or alongside another modality |
A written quotation is given by our physician after your consultation, and nothing is opened, injected or switched on until you have it in hand. Payment is made at the clinic before treatment begins. Cosmetic treatment is a self-pay item and is not covered by public medical insurance in China.
Why trust Luowei Medical Aesthetics Clinic with lifting
Energy-based lifting is the area where overselling is most common and the gap between promise and result is widest.

Trustworthiness
- What we do not claim No surgical equivalence, no guaranteed duration, no fixed percentage of lift, no promise of zero downtime
- When we refer out Substantial laxity is referred for surgical assessment rather than treated with a device
- Case disclosure Where a result involved more than one treatment, the record says so
Common reactions · Serious risks · Contraindications
Disclosed before your consultation. Specifics are reconciled against the current instructions for use for the exact platform selected.
Commonly reported after treatment
- Redness and swelling Usually settles within hours to a few days
- Tenderness The treated area can feel sore to touch for days to a couple of weeks
- Bruising or welts Can occur along treatment lines
- Altered sensation Tingling or numbness that typically resolves
- Discomfort during treatment Varies considerably by platform, area and individual
Uncommon, and disclosed
- Burns or blistering Associated with energy delivery at the wrong depth or setting
- Contour irregularity Including unwanted volume change in thin-tissue areas
- Nerve-related effects Temporary weakness or altered sensation near nerve pathways
- Limited or no visible improvement A real outcome that we discuss before treatment, not after

| Substantial laxity | Surgical assessment gives a more honest answer than a device |
| Active infection or skin disease in the area | Treated or resolved first |
| Relevant implants or devices | Screened against the current instructions for use |

Everything above about Ultrasound Skin Lifting & Tightening rests on published evidence rather than on our own word. The sources below are the ones behind those statements: peer-reviewed papers indexed in PubMed, and guidance written for patients by dermatology academies and national health services. Read them before you decide — and bring any of them to your consultation.

What these references can and cannot tell you. They describe what is known about the treatment itself — how well it tends to work, how long results last, and what can go wrong. They are not an assessment of this clinic, and no published study can tell you whether it suits your skin type, anatomy, or medical history. That judgement comes from the physician who examines you in person, and it may well be “not this one”.
